On May 3rd, 2011 the European Commission approved a new Biodiversity Strategy to halt the decrease of biodiversity and ecosystem services in the EU by 2020. European nature conservation and biodiversity policy section is an integral part of the European Parliament and Council Directive on the conservation of wild birds 2009/147 / EC (November 30th, 2009) and the conservation of natural habitats and of wild fauna and flora, 92/43 / EEC (May 21st, 1992).

In the context of research of the biodiversity and its conservation, the Association “Baltic Coasts” has carried out evaluation of Eimuri drainage channel in 2014 for mitigation of the coastal erosion and developed recommendations for the restoration of the drainage channel and dune along the coastline in Mežciems, Carnikava region.

In 2015, the Association “Baltic Coasts” in collaboration with experts in river hydrology and drainage systems performed a research study of the Langa river, and prepared recommendations for the improvement of its hydrological regime, including elaboration of proposals and solutions for the restoration of the hydrological regime of the Langa river, as well as to improve the environmental conditions in Kalngale village.
